January’s theme is Overcoming Sadness, Depression and more!
The Christmas Season or Winter Blues can be difficult for many people. Are you or a loved one feeling sad, overwhelmed, exhausted, distant, or irritable lately?
Come join us for an evening of fellowship and faith, as we learn how you can overcome these thoughts and feelings, based on the video series presented by Focus on the Family Canada counsellor Jennifer Antonsen. (Note, this video series is also available at Focus on the Family Depression.)
Topics will include: What is Depression? Symptoms of Depression? Treatment of Depression? Case Study of a Young Mom
Melissa is a Christian, wife and mom of four young children. She’s in her 30s and on maternity leave. She’s feeling overwhelmed, exhausted and is uncertain in her role as a mother. While Melissa is fictional, her story is common. In this video, Jennifer Antonsen explains how Melissa learned she was actually dealing with depression.
Case Study of a Middle-Aged Man
John and Jane are in their early 60s, headed toward retirement and are in good health. Most of their marriage has been relatively good and stable, but lately Jane has been concerned. Her typically affectionate husband has become distant and irritable. At Jane’s insistence, John sees his family doctor about his physical symptoms of fatigue. In this video, Jennifer Antonsen describes how this fictional couple discovered John’s diagnosis of mild depression and the steps they took to get him help.
The video format will include Scripture Meditations, Questions/Table Discussions, Additional Resource Listing and Prayer.
Registration ahead is appreciated online here. There is no cost to attend, just a goodwill offering.
Friends in Faith - Connection Café is a new program with events being held once a month in the evening.
Who is the Connection Cafe for? Really, for everyone who’s looking for spiritual support to get through the challenges we all face in life. Each event will feature a practical life or wellness topic, such as Mental Health, How to Age Well, How to Keep your Children Strong in Their Faith, and much more.
Discussion, prayer, fellowship and refreshments will round out the evening. Ultimately, we hope that these events will enable people to grow in their faith and feel supported while learning from each other.
NOTE: Future monthly Connection Café dates are: February 3, March 3, April 7, May 5, and June 2.
